The 2017 Carnegie Medal was announced on Monday and we were delighted to welcome the reading group from Backwell School for our annual joint celebration!

We started the day with a creative writing activity with students having to write a story based on one of the books, using dice to help them with the main elements!

Entries were judges by Mrs Strachan who chose two winners:
Helen, Bekky, Catherine, Jaz and Sylvie for their amazing story based on Salt to the Sea, and Christian, Emma, Dan, Jennifer and Maddie for their hilarious tale based on Beck.

This was followed by a quiz based on the books they have read during theirs shadowing of the Carnegie Shadowing.

Then lunch, with lots of amazing book-themed cakes!

Mr Hildrew then came in to announce the winner, which was:

Amazingly, this was our choice too! This hardly ever happens so we were delighted to have got it right!

The day ended with a debate on each of the shortlisted books, where students had an opportunity to share their, sometimes very strong, opinions on the books.

Thank you so much to Mrs Gibson, Mrs Vaux and the students of Backwell School for joining us in these celebrations. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have.

Thank you also to our students for owrking hard and creating some lovely pieces of work around the books:

Finally, we said goodbye to some very special book group members on Monday. We will miss you Ellena, Katherine, Becky, Ariella and Ella!
